Francesco Sabbatucci

Italian artist Francesco Sabbatucci (1960) achieved two important goals in the life of every artist (his first solo show and his first painting award) when he was still a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Viterbo.
Then he completed his Academy courses in Venice; at the same time he was studying with William Congdon, an American painter: a meaningful encounter for Sabbatucci's art making, and the topic of his diploma thesis.
He took part in several group shows; in 1990 he was among the founders of the "diSegno" association in Padua, and participated in numerous projects also with the collaboration of the UCAI. In 1995 he was invited to exhibit at the Venice International Art Exhibition (Biennale Arte) in the project "Memorie e attese" (Memories and waiting) at Villa Pisani, Stra.

For pragmatic reasons, in 1992 he put aside painting for cuisine as his main profession; painting has been a secret wish, entering and exiting his dreams for years, until he made a priority decision to start painting again, also upon invitation by the Giudecca 795 Art Gallery, exhibiting his latest works on the occasion of the 58th Biennale Arte in 2019.

Sabbatucci’s experience is deeply connected with his painting, in a striking impact with his place in the heart: Venice. He dialogues with the city, astonished as if it were the first time, showing us his unusual vision of Venice’s colors and architectures: by means of a theatrical language, he defines volumes and a three dimensional space breaking through the canvas.

His most recent artworks gravitate around verticality, which mirrors Sabbatucci’s personal growth and assimilate his own past experiences, bringing them out in a new artistic maturity.
