Paolo Rosa Salva

"I am an artist, born in Venice on January 17, 1948. I live in Venice and I practice drawing and painting, as well as other media, to attain images in which colours and shapes modulate to convey the sensation of a streamy flooding experience. Like water is fluent and changes continuously form as it moves, and appears and disappears in waves on sea and earth, so I try to convey, by means of shapes and colors, patterns suggesting movement on a square, flat surface. Trasparency is one of my expressive ends, the other, and opposite, is volume; in my work they modulate together in textures which are solid, yet at the same time fluid and soft. Painting is for me a form of selfawareness, an experience in which the physical movement of the body, arm, and hand is as important as the movements of the mind. Painting, like the universe, is for me constant flowing and movement; a dimension in which everything can rush or pause in the space of moments. In the same mysterious way, as the work proceeds, the transformation of raw materials in rhythmic shapes and no-shapes arrives to its aesthetic end, and an inner elegance is revealed which comes from tonal relationships, and from a very basical, primordial symbolic of order/disorder".
